Motion engineering
Why a robot path needs timing before execution
By NOVEMIQ · Engineering explainer
The same geometric path can be traversed in very different ways. Timing determines the requested velocity and acceleration along it, which makes trajectory processing an important execution boundary.

Understand the boundary
Treat path geometry and motion timing as separate review items. A short path is not automatically a suitable motion: the mechanism, payload, and application impose additional constraints.
What to review
Keep a versioned record of configured limits and explain where they came from. Compare the executed motion with the reference rather than judging quality from an animation alone.
Put it into practice
For an illustrative transfer operation, review the approach and departure segments as well as the main travel. Identify the acceptance criteria before tuning: repeatability, tracking, settling, or application throughput. Do not turn illustrative criteria into claimed benchmark results.
