Simulation
A simulation test matrix for robot software changes
By NOVEMIQ · Engineering explainer
A repeatable simulation test starts with named conditions and expected observations. Replaying a pleasant demonstration tests less than a deliberately varied set of task and environment conditions.
- 01Versioned scenario
- 02Controlled variation
- 03Observed behavior
- 04Reviewable record
Understand the boundary
Create a small baseline suite before expanding the number of scenarios. Fix the robot model, initial state, environment, and software configuration so the team can reproduce a failure.
What to review
Vary one relevant condition at a time: target pose, obstacle placement, sensor availability, or communication assumptions. Explain which variations the simulator represents credibly and which require hardware testing.
Put it into practice
Record pass criteria with the scenario, not after seeing the result. Archive configuration and observations alongside the software revision. These are proposed engineering practices, not NOVEMIQ benchmark claims or proof of real-world safety.
